Rapport Liliac Mat

This was an enjoyable, stress-free piece of lace to make, albeit took a long time to complete because it was hidden in a cupboard. Unfortunately the photo does not pick up the bling silvery - lilac gimp.

Wedding Horseshoe

My gorgeous friend is getting married tomorrow and always prefer to give something handmade rather than bought, so here is a very simple lace horseshoe for her.  I'm not sure if this type of thing is her "cup of tea" but we will see.  Here's to a long and happy marriage to the couple!

Christening Lace

A lot time in the making but I finally completed three metres of christening lace (bobbin lace) using the Springett's christening lace pattern.  Whilst there was not a great number of bobbins, the lace took hundreds of hours to make because of the length.

My next long term project will be wedding veil lace.

La Dentelle Torchon mat

I finally finished this mat, which only took around four months (obviously not continuously working on it).  The pattern is by Martine Piveteau and I found it very easy to work once it was started, with 30+ pairs of bobbins. 

Who knows, one day I may even get around to mounting it on fabric so I can use it as a mat (now if anyone knows of a fabric mounting business please let me know as I will gladly pay someone to do this for me).

Pendrell Dragon - Puff 2

Phew. It took a few months but I have finally completed Puff, a pattern by Wendy Chapman and Alison Dews. Whilst bobbin lace is not new to me, fillings are - and this has a number of fillings including simple spider and tallies, 8 thread armure and plaits. I worked it in silk which gives it a lovely sheen.

In the future I think I will make a different Dragon so there is a pair.

Carrickmacross Lace

I attended a one day Carrickmacross workshop at our Lace Guild quite a while ago and here is my second piece, mounted on a Torchon lace mat. I really enjoy making Carrickmacross and have an excellent instruction book by Mary Shields which guides me all the way.

Lace Bobbins

Here are my latest two bobbins - yes, they are rather presumptious but if something happens to the wedding plans from now until the wedding date, my bobbins will be collector items. BTW, I'm not a royalist but rather I like to take advantage of adding to my bobbin collection.

Alveoles Lace Bobbin Mat

I completed this lace mat last night (apart from mounting on fabric). The mat IS square although it doesn't look so in the photo - I obviously took the photo on an angle.

Interestingly this pattern was not difficult at all and I really enjoyed making it.

My next lace project will be a fun piece - a Dragon.

Alveoles Lace Mat

I am currently working on Alveoles - Patron mat using Bockens Linen 60/2 and over 76 bobbins. This definitely isn't a complicated pattern so I hope to have it finished by the end of the month, ready to start another lace project.

Craft FO's 2010

Please disregard the previous post, I decided to do a collage on my crafty FOs - I tallied up the projects and they were around 23, so I averaged it out over the year and didn't think the quantity was too bad.

Victorian Lace Guild

Thought I would share my Victorian Lace Guild AGM Bobbin I picked up on the weekend at our Guild Meeting. To jazz the bobbin up a little I dyed it in food dye with vinegar (to hold the dye). I quite like the rustic look and to complement it I spangled with red and pink glass beads.

Torchon Lace

I'm jumping up and down here!!!! I finally finished making the two bobbin lace mats for my friend's birthday (last year). For the last few months of the year I have basically been concentrating on finishing the mats. I'm very relieved they are complete, now I can concentrate on some other crafts for a little while at least. My spinning has been a little neglected and I would like to do some more tatting and Carrickmacross.


The first one is from Lace Express (I think the designer is Monique Potoms, but I am not certain). It is made with 39 pairs of bobbins and 50/2 Egyptian.

The second, and larger mat, is a gorgeous pattern from Alison Dews in UK, titled Hexagon Star. This has 48 pairs of 40 Finca.

Caricckmacross

I attended a Caricckmacross Workshop on Saturday held by the Victorian Lace Guild. The tutors. Leonie and Vicki, taught us how to make this lace and here is my very first piece. I must say, I really did enjoy making this lace and have now started my second piece, using the same design.

Unfortunately because of the nature of organdie and net,doesn't scan very good. But this will give you an idea of the finished product.

Torchon Bobbin Lace Mat

Here is a photo of a second mat I am making for my friend's 40th (December last year). Not long to go until the set is complete (she has two tables, not three as previously thought). The pattern is by Allison Dews, from UK.

My dear friend in the UK Allison Dews made this gorgeous Czech bird. It is just stunning with a variety of differing stitches and fillings, and differing threads . I have found the perfect place for it - it takes pride of place in the largest of my nest of tables, safely protected under a glass sheet.

Lace Wedding Horseshoe

I just finished a lucky horseshoe for a lady at work who is getting married in March. I have made many of these horseshoes - they are so quick and easy - yet each one is different.

I must admit, this is the second attempt at this horseshoe, when the diluted PVA hardened it clogged a lot of the holes so I remade it and used a stiff bristle brush to clear all the holes.

Bobbin Lace Mat

A work friend recently celebrated her 40th birthday and a couple of weeks before she turned 40 I discovered she had a nest of three tables with glass insert; a perfect opportunity (read, excuse) to make some lace mats as a present (albeit, late birthday present).


I started the first mat yesterday (after 2 1/2 hours of tedious preparation with bobbin winding and pricking). Once I finish this set of three I will be starting another identical set for my nest of tables!

Lace Mat

Completed my lace mat (69 pairs of bobbins). Once it is blocked/pressed I think it will look good. The pattern is Carre de dentelle aux quatre paves de points fantaisie and I experimented with the Schneeberg finishing technique; I am most happy with this technique although I have no way mastered it yet.

Lace Christmas Present

I received an "awesome" (to use my childrens' language) Christmas present from my friend Alison Dews in UK. She sent me a wonderful Christmas star kit which includes lace pattern and the steel star outline. Also, have a look at her handmade lace Christmas card, with two spangled lace bobbins.

Alison, thank you very much for this - I do know you won't read this but I will also thank you in my next letter.
