TIAS 2013

I completed (and almost on schedule) the 2013 Tat It and See Challenge by the very talented, and generous, Jane Eborall.  Have a look here http://www.janeeborall.blogspot.com.au/ to see her wonderful tatting.

The challenge was provided in short segments, 11 in total, and here is a collage of the progress throughout the challenge:

TIAS - It's a Plane, It's a Plane

It's finished and it is a plane! I had no idea up until the end what this tatting along would turn out to be. Thanks Jane for running the challenge, it was so much fun with easy-to-manage clues.

TIAS Pt 7 and Pt 8

Completed parts 7 and 8 - only two more parts to go. I have no idea what this will be (although I think I may have scanned it upside down??)

TIAS Pt 5 and Pt 6

Two more finished clues - day 5 and 6. I still have no idea what this will be therefore have no idea which way to place the tatting to take an image...

TIAS Pt 4

What I like about the TIAS is Jane releases the clues every few days and they are of manageable content (i.e. I am keeping up-to-date with them - LOL). The lock join was not as complicated as I had thought and made it - DOH. I am also really also enjoying split rings - I think they make tatting rings a little less tedious (if that is the right word).

TIAS Pt 2 and 3

Here is day 2 and 3 complete; lock joins were introduced on day three and I certainly hope I got it right as I could find no diagrams on this technique when googled. Hopefully a Tatter will tell me if this is incorrect before day 4 instructions are released.

I still have no clue as to what the finished item will be????

Tat It and See

..Supplies are ready for my second year of Jane's TIAS challenge. My colours are a plain green and variegated LizBeth thread (Springtime), both #20, with some dark multicolours beads as a contrast (and no I do not know what we are making, all is revealed as we get further along with the challenge. Last year, when all the pieces fell in to place, it resulted in a lovely Rooster.

Craft FO's 2010

Please disregard the previous post, I decided to do a collage on my crafty FOs - I tallied up the projects and they were around 23, so I averaged it out over the year and didn't think the quantity was too bad.

Shuttles

I recently bought some tatting shuttles from an estate, and to my surprise they arrived today and there was a lot more than expected! There are metal ones, bone ones and plastic shuttles. Now I just need to get motivated and do some more tatting.

Completed some more tatting motifs for the 25 Tatting Motif Challenge. A couple of patterns are by Mary Konior. Motifs number 13-17 now complete....

Stumpy

I'd like to introduce you to STUMPY, my tatted bookmark (pattern is by the very talented Kersti Anear http://www.kersti.com/). I tatted this as part of a monthly forum challenge at http://www.tattingforums.com/forums/, and I am also cheating (a little) and calling it a "motif" so it also qualifies for part of the 25 tatting motif challenge (motif #12).

Happy Valentine's Day

Not that I am a traditionalist, but a "theme" always motivates me. And what better a theme, than Love.......
Firstly a wonderful Pattern from Jon, which can be found at this site http://tatsaway-patterns.blogspot.com/. This is my first attempt at a dimpled ring. I used Lizbeth thread which is definitely my favourite tatting thread at the moment.

Secondly, I remember these lollies from my childhood. They are called "Sweethearts" and I thought it appropriate to take a photo to recognise the day of love.

Lastly, a little play on words - well, scrabble letters actually. I love my 50mm prime lens for my Nikon and use it every chance I get.

Tardis

Thanks to Anne B's gorgeous TARDIS tatting pattern, here is my Tardis. I'm very pleased with it and will get it laminated next week so my youngest daughter (diehard Dr Who fanatic) can use it as a bookmark.



I had my first exposure to split chains with the Tardis; whilst they are not difficult, it is awkward (thank goodness for You-Tube; it has helped me many a time when learning new techniques whether it be for tatting, or some other type of art/craft). My SC is far from perfect, but hey, it's my first attempt.

Tatting Motifs

Here is some tatting I recently finished. First is a snowflake based on heart doily by Kelly Luljak. I used Perle 8 in a blood red colour.

Next is Acacia by Judith Conners. I used Caotes 20 in a blue with some dark blue/purple beads as accent.

Thirdly is Sally Magill's MHC Snowflake in Lizbeth's 20. Whilst I love Lizbeth, it is just divine, the variation doesn't do the pattern any justice at all.

.... and lastly is my completed Rooster from Jane's TIAS challenge. It was the first time I have participated in a tatting challenge, and now I understand what "challenge" actually means! I really enjoyed doing this however and will certainly do another one.

TIAS 1

I am participating in Jane's TIAS 2010 (Tat It and See) game http://tatitandsee.blogspot.com/. Those participating just received their first clue and to my amazement I completed it! This is my first real attempt at split rings too. Thank you Jane, I think this will be fun.

(As a side issue, I now just need to sort out single shuttle split rings)

New Tatting Shuttle

I received another gorgeous tatting shuttle in the mail today - this time from the Shuttle Shop. On the reverse side it has a lovely snowflake.

Cactus Silk

Look what else I received in today's mail. I got the "heads up" at my spinning group on the weekend and got some Cactus silk - yep, CACTUS SILK. My understanding is there are two types of Cactus silk; the fibre from the agave plant in Morocco/Mexico, and rayon. This silk is supposed to be from the plant.

Isn't it just stunning. The colours are so vibrant. I can't wait until I have a play. I will ply it with some fibre, and maybe even use some of the silk for my lacemaking.
